TintCenter.com monitors many data feeds across the country from newspapers. radio, TV, and internet for the latest changes to window tint laws in each state; however, our information may not at all times be the most up-to-date.
We have heard stories from our users that tint laws may even be enforced differently by each regional Police Department in the same state.
In all cases, refer to you local authority for enforcement policies, current window tint laws, rules or regulations as the final authority to car window tint laws in your area.
Most times these situations are not due to negligence by the police, but lack of clarity in terms of how the state window tint laws were written. You can think of the collection of laws for each state as a patchwork quilt, as time goes on, more patches need to be added and removed to keep the laws applicable towards the future.
This process sometimes causes inconsistent window tint laws (patches) to border each other and make the entire section subject to interpretation. TintCenter.com tries to take the concensus opinion from many sources and publish that in our state tint laws section. For example, here is site about the problems interpreting Pennsylvania Window Tint Laws.
Why Window Tinting is Legal In Pennsylvania?Window Tinting is Legal in Pennsylvania because neither the Statute, which the legislature has enacted according to the will of the people, nor the Regulation, which the Administration has passed to clarify the law, prohibit it.
TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that
(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit
a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.
Note that the law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. It does not prohibit all tinting or tinting below 70%.
The Law therefore implicitly permits any tinting which does not prevent a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle.
